High Court orders temporary ban on PUBG, Free Fire and other harmful online games in Bangladesh

Games like PUBG and Free Fire will be temporarily banned in Bangladesh.

The High Court has ordered to ban all harmful online games including PUBG, Free Fire from all online platforms in Bangladesh for the next three months.

Petitioner lawyer Humayun Kabir Pallab told BBC Bangla that the High Court issued the rule asking why a technical committee should not be formed for regular monitoring or monitoring of online games and why a guideline should not be made in this regard.

A show-cause notice has also been issued asking why online live streaming apps, including TikTok, Likee and Bigo Live, should not be banned. A 10-day deadline has been set.

On June 24, 2021, a writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking a directive to ban games like TikTok, Bigolive, Likee, PUBG and Free Fire on all online platforms in the country. The petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyers Humayun Kabir Pallab and MohammThe order was issued on Monday during the hearing of the petition.

Another hearing will be held after receiving a reply to the notice in the next 10 days. Accordingly, a decision will be taken whether these games and apps will be permanently banned in Bangladesh, said the Supreme Court lawyer.

মি. Kabir said the young society is getting addicted to games like PUBG. In addition, young people are being trained in violence through these games. They’re getting used to it. That’s why they spend money on these games. That’s why these online games are considered harmful.
